Sundance Film Festival/X-Dance Awards Tonight

So, Matt and I played at a benefit for Haiti last night, Including joining Pras (The Fugees) for a song later in the night. Who knew Matt could beatbox? It was a really great event aimed at “turning the lights on” in Haiti. Attendees of the show would donate or purchase portable lighting for the victims of the quake. There were many a great musician at the show, and we had a great time hanging out and getting to watch the show ourselves.

Tonight the full band will be performing at the X-Dance Action Sports Awards ceremony with Del the Funky Homosapien. This is the part of the film festival where sports movies are recognized, such as the ski/snowboard films we all love. This particular awards ceremony is a special one because Warren Miller will be receiving a lifetime achievement award! You can get more details about this show at the X-Dance Website.

Top Ten Bands of the Decade

The Daily Universe in Provo Utah recently wrote and article on the ten best local bands of the Decade. It was an honor to be on the list.
Provo’s music scene has always been very unique. There are not a lot of bars hence not a lot of venues the bands are all intertwined and you really do have to make your own way. This article brought back a lot of memories. I thought of playing house parties, battle of the bands, Littering BYU housing with fliers, trips to Boise, getting shut down by the cops…a lot. Makeshift stages, and eating at the hospital after shows, until i was permanently eighty-sixed from the premises for getting in a fight with the security guard.
Thanks Corey Fox for including us in the list. There have been a lot of great bands come through this town, so many of them finish school and move on, It would be easy for the scene to fall apart but Corey has kept the seen alive and unique always moving forward. Velour is our CBGS.
